Harriman Basecamp

Thanks to the Boys Club, my 12-year-old was able to attend his first away-from-home camp. At first, we were both nervous, but he came back loving every activity, especially fishing, making s’mores, and bonding with other boys his age. The experience helped him become more independent, which makes me so happy. As a single mom, I’m very grateful for this opportunity, especially at no cost. The enrollment process was simple and easy.”

The Boys’ Club of New York founded Harriman Basecamp with a mission to increase access to nature and wellness for New York City’s boys and young men. Building on over 120 years of experience offering sleepaway camp, Harriman Basecamp connects members to nature, as they live and experience programming surrounded by the forest and lakes of Harriman State Park. Campers are able to develop critical life skills while fostering emotional and physical growth.

Harriman Basecamp offers a supportive environment that brings boys and young men everything that has made BCNY special for 150 years. Our experienced staff partner with campers to build a brotherhood that centers community, safety, and wellness. At BCNY, the memories and friendships made over the summer last a lifetime.

What if my camper is homesick?

Camp Homesickness Policy

BCNY has offered overnight camp programming for over 120 years. We understand that being away from home can be emotionally challenging for campers. As such, we have developed a parent check-in schedule that allows campers to touch base with guardians, without interrupting their opportunity to acclimate their new environment.

We also have a homesick protocol in place to support our campers and their families. Our protocol aims to help campers accept and address their feelings, while offering time to resolve their emotions with experienced staff and with their guardian(s).

If a camper’s homesickness cannot be resolved for any reason, we will ensure the camper safely returns home.
