Teen Journey

Content Creator Teen Quadir

Quadir has been a member on and off since 2nd grade and comes to the clubhouse most days. Sometimes, he makes videos for his friend’s gaming YouTube channel.

Throughout his long Journey at BCNY, Quadir has formed a strong sense of belonging at BCNY. Coming to the clubhouse most days, he has formed supportive friendships with other members and staff.

STEP 1

Quadir participates in all the college access workshops, got his essay drafted early, and wants to get into a top SUNY.

Preparing for high school and college with The Boys’ Club, Quadir has formed a strong awareness of his educational options, applying to places that meet his goals.

STEP 2

Quadir has done Project Coach, Project Comms, and Art Assistants. He loved getting diverse work experience and really connected with his internship supervisors. He reaches out to them with questions about college.

Through an extensive career training Journey, Quadir has expanded his sense of interests, strengths, and weaknesses. As he prepares for college with confident goal-setting, he grows his independence, self-direction, and self-reliance.

Coding & Design Teen Carlos

Carlos has been a member since 7th grade and comes to the clubhouse 1-2 times a week. He plays on his school’s soccer team and does video game design at Boys’ Club.

Throughout his Journey, Carlos has developed a sense of safety at BCNY, using his time in the clubhouse to expand his interests, strengths, and weaknesses.

STEP 1

Carlos participates in his school’s gay-straight alliance (GSA) club and hasn’t come out to his friends at BCNY yet.

Through GSA, Carlos has grown his sense of responsibility to communities beyond him and his family. He has also gained critical awareness around social and political issues, especially as they relate to BIPOC youth.

STEP 2

Carlos has done Project Build, Project Tech, and Counselor in Training. He loves tech and hands-on work the most. He’s not sure if college is right for him and might be interested in trade school.

Through an extensive career training Journey, Carlos improves his hands-on skills while strengthening his responsibility and accountability. As he considers trade school, he develops his independence and ability to advocate for himself.
