Journey
New Explorer Richard
Richard just joined this year in 4th grade and comes to the clubhouse every day.
Throughout his Journey, Richard grows a sense of safety and belonging at BCNY, creating supportive relationships with staff.
STEP 1
He loved Culinary Kids and just joined Learn-to-Swim.
Richard expands his sense of interests, strengths, and weaknesses. Through Learn-to-Swim, he’s conquering his fear of the water and learning more techniques every week.
STEP 2
At school, Richard gets mixed grades, sometimes struggling with homework.
The Education Department works with Richard during Homework Help, increasing his academic skills and self-confidence.
STEP 3
Richard often goes on community service projects with clubhouse members and staff. He particularly enjoys projects that help the environment.
Through service projects, Richards develops a growing sense of responsibility to communities beyond himself and his family and the environment.

STEP 4
Musician Explorer Isaiah
Isaiah has been a member since 1st grade and comes to the clubhouse about 3 times a week.
Throughout his Journey, Isaiah grows a sense of safety and belonging at BCNY, creating supportive relationships with staff.
STEP 1
Isaiah is learning piano at Music Production. He considers his piano instructor a mentor and his fellow members in music are his closest circle of friends at BCNY.
Throughout his music Journey, Isaiah improves his skills, developing resilience and confidence in the face of mistakes and failures. He develops strong friendships with other members and other kids outside BCNY.
STEP 2
At school, he is starting to get above-average grades and often gets tutoring at BCNY.
From receiving tutoring every week, Isaiah is developing accountability and confidence in his academics.
STEP 3
Isaiah loves art and paints any chance he can get. He is especially happy about mural painting, with this year’s theme being “BCNY Heroes.” He feels challenged by the instructor telling the members to create their own heroes instead of using ones that already exist.
Painting murals with other members and staff, Isaiah expands his sense of interests, strengths, and weaknesses.
