BCNY Winter Exploration Trip with Appalachian Mountain Club

Members kicked off BCNY’s wilderness and environmental programming with a winter exploration trip to the breathtaking White Mountains of New Hampshire with BCNY Camp Director, Seb Venuat and Devin Malbreaux, licensed psychotherapist and wilderness enthusiast.

A Winter Exploration

After a scenic drive north, members settled in at Appalachian Mountain Club’s Mountain Lodge, where they prepared for an ascent to a remote mountain hut. Equipped with snowshoes and ice crampons, members hiked snowy and icy trails while carrying their belongings to the Zealand Falls Hut. Participants learned to prepare their own meals, stock a wood stove for heat, and melt snow for drinking water- all while taking in the serene beauty of the dark skies and the silence of the mountains.

This winter exploration experience immersed members in the great outdoors and prepared them to join our Cohort of Counselors-in-Training at BCNY’s Harriman Basecamp this summer.

Thank you, Appalachian Mountain Club, for co-sponsoring BCNY’s Winter Exploration Trip and to the whole team for making the trip supportive and restorative for members with memories that will last a lifetime.
