The Boy’s Club of New York would like to celebrate Executive Associate Cinda Lawrence, who retired last month. We are so thankful for her dedication to the BCNY community for over 20 years and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her life.

As Executive Associate, Cinda worked closely with Stephen Tosh, Boys’ Club Executive Director, assisting with and coordinating myriad projects and their concomitant logistical processes. An important project that Cinda was integral to was preserving the more than a century-long history of The Boys’ Club. When BCNY moved from Harriman Clubhouse after being there for 120 years, Cinda did an amazing job packing it up.
Her care and attention to detail in archiving Harriman Clubhouse’s history undergirded the success of a later project with The New York Historical Society to digitally archive BCNY’s historical records at the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library. The digital archive culminated in a high-quality collection of 403 photographic negatives produced between 1920-1980 by commercial photographers on behalf of The Boys’ Club of New York. The majority depict young BCNY members engaged in a variety of activities, either at the club’s Tompkins Square Building (later renamed Harriman Clubhouse), Jefferson Park Clubhouse (later renamed Gerry Clubhouse), or at the William Carey Camp in Jamesport, New York.
For many, Cinda did much more than administrative mastery; she left indelible impressions on everyone she worked with, leaving them with a boundless feeling of kindness and patience. To colleagues, she was an irreplaceable ray of warmth, being on the spot to help them meet a deadline and always being there for Stephen with a positive quote or article when he was stressed. The first to answer a call, Cinda could often be heard engaging parents who called with questions and concerns kindly and patiently. And in true Boys’ Club fashion, Cinda embodied what it meant to be part of the BCNY family, never failing to wish happy birthday to staff and keeping in touch with former colleagues long after they left BCNY. In short, Cinda will always have a special place in our hearts and will always be a part of BCNY. We wish her the very best.
