Woodshop with Ecotone
This year, woodshop was added to Harriman Basecamp! The program was taught by Boys’ Club partner and CEO of Ecotone, Craig Desmond. The boys learned a lot, discovering the fundamentals of woodworking. From the math behind measuring specific boards, such as differentiating a handle board from a short side board, to how to use a saw for wood safely, the boys expanded their repertoire of hands-on skills. Reflecting on the experience at camp, Craig shared:
“I’m feeling inspired by the boys at Basecamp. Their boundless curiosity, combined with a fearless approach to tackling unexpected challenges, has been nothing short of remarkable. It’s a privilege to see these young minds grow and develop the skills that will shape the future of our communities. Here’s to fostering that same spirit of exploration in everything we do.”
It was truly a joy to see the boys learning new skills while enjoying the beauty of Harriman State Park, fostering important memories that last a lifetime. Thank you, Craig, for an amazing woodshop and partnership. We are so happy about how our members are learning important skills at camp and through Project Build. We are excited about how this partnership will grow.
