Project Build Visits Domino Park

April 24th, 2024

In partnership with Ecotone and Two Trees Management, Project Build members toured the historic Domino Park located along the East River in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Built on the site of the former Domino Sugar Factory, a place of incredible significance to the growth and development of Williamsburg and the entire Brooklyn waterfront, Domino Park is a tribute to the diversity and resiliency of generations of Domino workers and their families.

Equipped with hard hats and yellow vests, Project Build members and staff got to share laughs with and learn from Giles and Bridget from Two Trees Management, whose philosophy of contributing to the prosperity and sustainability of neighborhoods served as another source of knowledge for how jobs in development can cultivate livable streetscapes. They also learned first-hand from Ecotone’s founder, Craig Desmond, the intricacies of coordinating multiple development stakeholders with a deep understanding of natural building materials and an unshakeable commitment to creating environments that foster meaningful human interaction. Members toured the many aspects of Domino Park with newfound knowledge about OSHA, carpentry, construction, development, communication, and the history behind Domino Sugar Factory from development industry experts. They were then treated to a special lunch at Roberta’s by our partners, ending the tour on a delicious note.

Our partners also had a great time, with Craig sharing: “We had fun last week with some young men from BCNY. It is always refreshing to be around lighthearted joking on deadly serious, high-pressure job sites with impending deadlines. I genuinely thank the members for bringing that energy.” We could not be more thankful as well. This was an experience members will always remember and be inspired by as they explore careers in design and construction.
