How we use social-emotional learning to determine BCNY’s success.
iMatter, BCNY’s annual member survey, was developed to measure the effects of membership and the development of BCNY’s 4Cs: confidence, competence, character-richness, and connectedness.
iMatter goes beyond traditional measurements of success by focusing on social-emotional learning, providing insight into a member’s experience at BCNY and an understanding of how well we’re meeting our more abstract goals.
For example, we aim to equip our members to meet challenges and persevere in the face of difficulty. Our data shows that 75% of our members enjoy challenges and 72% of members will try again when they are unsuccessful. By tracking both academic outcomes and social-emotional growth, we get a fuller picture of the boys’ development and the positive impact of the Boys’ Club.
