Driven by an
extraordinary demand for the Agency’s services, The Boys’ Club of New
York completed the new construction of the Marion McMahon Abbe
Clubhouse in Flushing, Queens in August 2003. The building was open
for programming on Monday, September 22, 2003 with a Grand Opening Ceremony on Thursday, September
25, 2003. Having grown from a 10,000 square foot one-story building
to a 35,000 square foot three-story building, the new Abbe Clubhouse
is equipped with a multi-purpose room with stage; in-door swimming
pool; gymnasium; fitness center; roof-top play space; library;
learning center; 3-classroom literacy complex; cultural arts center;
art studio; media center; technology center; 3 game rooms; teen
lounge; health center; 3 meeting rooms; and corresponding staff office
spaces. This expanded program space will give BCNY the capacity to
provide its full range of dynamic programming to the Flushing
community.
